2012: The End is Near

We’ve been shitty about updating the show postings on this site but that is going to change. We have played four shows in 2012: two in Brooklyn, two in Trenton, all pretty decent. March 11, this coming Sunday, marks our first show in Philly since November; April 26 will find us opening for Inquisition at St Vitus in Brooklyn.

We are in the early stages of planning trips to the west coast and northeast again. A new album is almost written and recording will take place sometime in the spring or very early summer with a release and serious touring expected late this year.

We Went on Tour with Mayhem…

…and just as suddenly as it started, it ended. I don’t even know what to say, really. A huge, unending thank-you to all of the bands — Abigail Williams, Hate, Keep of Kalessin, and Mayhem — as well as the crew, everyone who worked at the venues except for that bartender who gave everyone a fucking attitude, the amazing people who gave us places to crash, and everyone who came out to the shows. Pictures and videos to come.

Summer Update

It’s been a while since I updated this thing, more laziness than anything else, so an update felt like it was in order.

First off, Grzesiek decided to leave the band so he could focus on work and Infernal Stronghold, who are finally blowing the fuck up. We are all extremely proud of him and loved his time in Woe. There’s nothing more to say than that, really.

Our friend Ruston Grosse has stepped in to fill Grzman’s shoes.

Fucking intense. He has been rehearsing with us for a few weeks now and will make his debut on September 15 in Philadelphia.

We are tagging along on the first few shows of the Mayhem/Keep of Kalessin/Hate/Abigail Williams tour in November. I don’t exactly like big tours, to put it mildly, and while I think that this is going to be fucking intense, I’m looking forward to getting back to booking some smaller shows of our own. My bad attitude aside, I cannot complain about this taking Woe to a number of new cities, including three dates in Canada (Quebec City, Ottawa, and Toronto) and Chicago, all places we have had on the to-do list for some time.

We are working on new material. The upcoming Woe release will be somewhat of a departure from those before it as all members are now writing independently and bringing things to the table; in fact, the two new songs we are wrapping up right now were written primarily by the other members with me acting as something between co-author and producer. Shawn and Ben’s material sounds, in many ways, more like old Woe than anything I’ve written in a year or two, and it’s good to have some people to keep me from writing shit that is too… wussy. Having them to balance the scale has allowed me to experiment a bit more and in addition to the two songs we are finishing now, I have two finished demos with a third pending that I think manage to push Woe forward without totally breaking from tradition.

Trying to predict how a new release will turn out is something that I don’t like doing. In the past, my ideas of how new material will sound and how it actually ends up sounding have been quite different from each other — for example, “Quietly, Undramatically” was supposed to be more aggressive and faster than its predecessor — though I can say that the image

And there you have it. All confirmed shows have been posted to this website. In addition to the two in September, we have one in North Jersey in October, plus the Mayhem tour, of course. More pending. Contact woeunholy AT gmail DOT com for booking.

West Coast 2011 Part 1

We are about three hours outside Oakland, passing by what Ross just described as Cowschwitz, listening to Peste Noire. Scion Rock Fest was incredible. Totally professional but very relaxed, a great vibe, an awesome experience. Thanks to all involved, everyone who came out to see us, and all the bands we raged with for those epic few days!

Nice treatment is weird. The Scion people told me that they like working with metal bands because of how easy we are. No real demands, no expectations other than some beer and a floor to sleep on… (the cool ones, anyway.) I guess that’s the natural result of devoting your life to something that really had no money to be made. Still, I wouldn’t want that kind of treatment with any regularity, I don’t see how it couldn’t make you soft. Take the dirt out of the band, how can the music not get clean?

So here we are, back on the road. It’s been too long. Spirits are high.

We play Oakland tonight. Be there.
